Beautiful details in this downtown wedding! Simple and fresh with lots of greenery set the stage for this March gathering. A few words from the bride about how they met and planning the big day…
How did you meet?
Jackson and I met through a mutual friend who was about to move so was gathering all his closest friends as frequently as possible leading up to moving day. Jackson and I both were friends with him but had never really met each other. A few weeks had passed, the friend had moved, and we all hung out a few more times when I had this feeling that I was going to marry him. I didn’t really know him at all but he was wildly attractive and had the best personality of anyone I’d ever met so I didn’t immediately dismiss the idea, but I also didn’t want to put the cart before the horse. We got to know each other over the summer – our friend group spent more time together than apart, I believe. During this time, Jackson also came on staff at the church where I work so now worlds were really colliding.
After a few more months, Jackson met my parents (just as a friend at this time) and seeing him interact with them solidified in my heart that what I had felt 5 months prior was actually true – he was the man I wanted to marry. After meeting my parents, he really began to pursue me in a romantic sense and we began dating in February of 2016. We had such a fun dating season and just continued to get to know each other in a new way as boyfriend and girlfriend – we spent time with each others families, did some traveling together with our friends, learned that we both love to cook and have continued to serve together in the local church, which is one of the greatest joys of our lives.
Jackson proposed on October 22, 2016, 6 months after we began dating. We were engaged for a little over 4 months and got married in downtown Birmingham at Bridgestreet Gallery and Loft on March 17, 2017.
What was your vision for your wedding?
I love all things simple and organic. I didn’t want anything super ornate or themed, instead something that would be timeless, organic and romantic. My biggest want for the wedding was that it would be peaceful, joyful and easy, including all our favorite people and things.
I loved the mix of the blank canvas of the venue and the simple greenery and flowers. I loved the natural lighting coming through the loft windows and sky lights that added to the naturally simple feel of the day. We love good food, laughing and dancing, and spending as much time with our friends and family – these were the most important details of our day to us and I’m so happy to say that they were all accomplished with the most beautiful backdrop.
What was your favorite part about planning?
My favorite part of the planning was that I finally found someone as obsessed with detail and excellence as me in Neillie and her team. I never once worried that the ball had been dropped or a detail overlooked. Between the expert advice and design taste, to the punctual work and communication, to the individualized care, Mariée Ami made me feel so special, cared for and important. They used their resources and connections while still letting it be my wedding.
What was the most memorable moment?
It’s hard to name just one most memorable moment from the day as I prayed for months leading up that I would remember everything that happened that day. From getting hair and make up done with my best friends, to seeing my future husband for the first time on our day, to seeing all of our friends and family who had traveled far and wide to be there. And then of course I loved dancing and celebrating the rest of the evening with my new husband. : )
